ONE IN THE SPIRIT: A Catholic Homecoming—Bring the children
Following a magnificent diocesan celebration in June 2006, Bishop J. Kevin Boland is once again calling together the diocesan family of faith to celebrate One in the Spirit: A Catholic Homecoming on November 1 in Perry.Four concurrent tracks, each with inspirational speakers and activities, will be available:
- General Track, Hispanic Track, Youth Track for ages sixth grade and up, and
- Children’s Track for children from kindergarten to the fifth grade.
At the first One in the Spirit, over 180 children attended the Children’s Track, which was held in one area. With the anticipated growth of this year’s event, the track has been expanded to include two separate, well-secured areas which will be staffed with VIRTUS-trained helpers.
Pre-registration will be required for all children who attend. Pre-registration forms will be sent to each parish prior to the date or parents may register their children online at the One in the Spirit page of the diocesan Web site, www.diosav.org. Space is limited; therefore children will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.
Each area will have age-appropriate activities for the children to enjoy. Joanne Fast, coordinator for the One in the Spirit Children’s Track, is a member of Saint Patrick Parish in Kathleen. Fast has been working hard organizing a list of VIRTUS-trained volunteers to help provide plenty of entertainment and education for the day. Activities for the K-2nd grade area are:
- —“Music is Fun with Mrs. Carol”: Carol Standburg has been a member of Saint Patrick Parish for 29 years. She has served as a cantor, choir director, and is currently the youth music director.
- —“The Magical Stylings of Mr. Jim”: Jim Minton has worked with the Catholic Youth Organization in numerous parishes as well as the Life Teen Program, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, and various other religious education programs.
- —“Clowning Around and Face Painting with Ms. Bec”: Bec Alegra is involved with both Saint Patrick Church and Sacred Heart Church in Warner Robins. Children always love a clown and Ms. Bec is quite loveable.
- —Craft projects relating to the Holy Spirit, a secured outside play area, and, of course, those rockin’ Chick-Fil-A Cows!
Activities for 3rd–5th grades are:
- —“Rock with Doubting Thomas.” Doubting Thomas is a new Christian rock band from Saint Patrick Church. They have just finished a faith tour of many churches in Georgia and Alabama.
- —A vacation Bible school program of activities will be included along with a talk on Reconciliation by Father Bob Cushing.
- — A Chick-Fil-A lunch will be provided for all registered children and snacks will be donated by Frito Lay.
Register your children as soon as possible for the One in the Spirit Children’s Track, where they will enjoy the day and learn about their faith through fun and games.
