The history of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church includes the histories of both the Most Pure Heart of Mary and Saint Anthony of Padua Parishes. Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church is a merged faith community of both parishes. Father Ignatius Lissner, of the Society of African Missions, was the founder of both parishes. Each parish existed more than ninety years before the merger on July 1, 2000. During those years, each parish had a rich and vibrant history.

Bishop J. Kevin Boland, Bishop of the Diocese of Savannah, approved the recommendation of the Savannah Deanery Steering Committee to merge Most Pure Heart of Mary and Saint Anthony of Padua Parishes in the spring of 1999. Both faith communities accepted the recommendation in faith, in spite of the changes that would come to both communities.

From July 1, 1999 through June 30, 2000, a Merger Committee, comprised of members from both parishes, along with parishioners input developed a Pastoral Plan for the new faith community.

The first Mass at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church was celebrated on Sunday, July 7, 2000.
