St. Joan of Arc all started with a few Catholic families coming together for Sunday mass in homes in Louisville under the pastoral leadership of the priests of Glenmary Home Mission Society.  The Glenmary priests took care of the pastoral leadership for many years, assisted by the generous support of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Heidrich.

The Glenmary handed over the pastoral leadership of the church to the Diocese and pulled out because of the decline in their numbers.  Like many other religious orders and societies of our time, the Glenmary Society suffered from shortage of vocations, which led to Glenamary priests leaving St. Joan of Arc.  For some years, there was no resident priest, as a result of this, priests from nearby towns came to celebrate mass for parishioners, but the Bishop did no want things to continue that way. Then he sought the help of the Missionary Society of St. Paul also known as Missionaries of St. Paul to take over the pastoral leadership of St. Joan of Arc Church.
